Edition #6 · Week of August 10 – August 16, 2026
For a month we've been telling you the market trades the patch before the patch lands. This is the week it stops being a rehearsal. August 11 is a double-header — WoW's 12.1 "Curse of Ula'tek" and Guild Wars 2's August update drop the same day — with FFXIV a full week into its Switch 2 wave and Albion's Dragonfire countdown inside three weeks. What our price tracking caught underneath is the oldest pattern in the book: the speculative froth is deflating on schedule, the last froth survivors are cracking, and the smart money has quietly rotated out of guesses and into the flasks, enchants and profession mats that patch day actually consumes. Here's what mattered.
Market Movers
WoW's pre-Season 2 speculation is unwinding right on top of the patch. WoW Retail's Patch 12.1 "Curse of Ula'tek" lands August 11, with Midnight Season 2 and its item-level reset following August 18 — the reset that obliterates the value of current Heroic and Mythic gear. The pre-season playbook is now in its final hours: bank flasks, food, enchants and gems before patch week, hoard Crafting Sparks for day-one upgrades, hold profession points for the announced one-time Knowledge reset. But our data says the speculative half of that trade is being closed out fast. The Darkmoon Deck bet we've tracked for three editions is collapsing into the patch — both survivors are down hard (numbers below) — while the "Lost" weapon froth flared one last time before cracking. Meanwhile the crafting complex that patch day genuinely needs is getting bid up. That's the tell: with the catalyst finally here, traders are selling the story and buying the supplies. Set an alert on your Season 2 consumable stack before Tuesday's open.
A viral raccoon becomes a genuine cross-game market event. In a first we can't remember seeing, the same meme is entering three economies at once: Jimothy the Raccoon — a real Seattle cryptid with an organic ArenaNet connection — arrives August 11 as a collectible minipet in Guild Wars 2's Lion's Arch and as a secret earnable pet in WoW Retail (with AQ3D joining too). GW2's Trading Post is the one to watch: free-to-obtain event and secret minipets reliably see sharp price discovery in the first 24–72 hours as listing behavior stabilizes and supply floods in. Blizzard hasn't disclosed WoW's acquisition method, which historically spawns a secondary market in discovery hints and adjacent items. It's a small-cap story, but a rare clean one — a fresh, tradeable collectible with a hard launch date and a demand curve you can actually watch tick. One for the Flip Finder on Tuesday.
FFXIV's Switch 2 wave didn't calm the board — it electrified it. A week after Final Fantasy XIV hit Nintendo Switch 2 (first month free) into a market still digesting Patch 7.55, the reagent complex isn't normalizing — it's whipsawing violently in both directions on heavy volume. Last edition's rebound cluster has reversed and last edition's wrecks are ripping; ingots and leathers that trade hundreds of times a day are posting triple-digit gains and near-total wipeouts side by side. That's not a settling market and it's not a directional one — it's a market with fresh, low-information demand colliding with post-patch oversupply. The signal for traders: on this board, read volume and item-level moves, not the headline. With Patch 7.56 (Beastmaster, final Dawntrail MSQ) confirmed for September 8 and the Evercold expansion five months out, the churn has room to run.
Path of Exile's chase tier is still being invented in real time. Path of Exile's 3.29 "Curse of the Allflame" is settled in the middle — Divine Orbs anchored around 80 Chaos, T16 Charts the efficient farm after July's reward buffs, the socket-color rework's Chromatic collapse still un-reversed — but the top of the market is pure price discovery. On the dozen-trade volume a maturing league runs, our tracking is watching high-end unique weapons get priced from scratch, with prints that look absurd because nobody's set the anchor yet. Read direction, not the decimal.
What Our Data Shows
The part only AuricDB can tell you — live prices from the markets themselves. On post-patch and fresh-league tape we lean on item-level moves and trade volume over headline index percentages, and this week the headlines are exactly why.
- The Darkmoon Deck bet cracked into the patch. Last edition the Season 2 trinket trade had narrowed to two survivors near 5,400g. Both just gave it back: Darkmoon Deck: Hunt is down to 1,999g (−55.6% on the day, 183 trades) and Darkmoon Deck: Blood to 2,999g (−33.4%), with Darkmoon Deck: Rot at 849g (−57.4%). The pre-season converged on a meta guess, and now — hours from patch notes — it's cashing out of the guess.
- The last froth survivor finally paid the tax. The Raging Storm Sash was the one Warcraft moonshot that kept doubling while its cohort round-tripped to zero; it printed 100,000g last edition. This week it's 25,000g, −62.5%. The froth flared one more time first — our WoW index's top gainer was a "Lost Sunwell Splitter" ticking a deranged +6,467% on thin conviction — which is exactly what pre-season air does on its way out.
- The mats patch day actually burns are the ones getting bid. While the speculation deflated, the crafting complex lit up: Sin'dorei Rolling Pin is up +233% to 4,998g and Sin'dorei Enchanter's Crystal +15.7% to 3,354g on the day's heaviest WoW volume (196 trades). That divergence — profession inputs up, speculative trinkets down — is the cleanest "buy the supplies, sell the story" print we've caught all cycle. (The jewelry side bled: Tarnished Dawnlit Loop −91.8% to 163g.)
- FFXIV, in violent two-way churn. Ripping: Ra'Kaznar Ingot at 1,212g (+102%, 376 trades) and Rose Gold Ingot 59g (+63.9%). Wiped: Rhodochrosite 174g (−99.5%, the day's biggest faller), Purussaurus Leather 7g (−98.9%), and Silver Lobo Leather 1,990g (−75.1%). The whiplash on last edition's headliners tells the story best: White Gold Ingot, which rebounded to 2,200g a week ago, has collapsed back to 312g (−79.2%), while Black Star — a 450g wreck last edition — is now the single highest-volume item we track for the game at 7,799g on 412 trades. Nothing here is normalizing yet.
- PoE chase weapons, direction not price. On a dozen trades apiece: The Golden Charlatan (Lion Sword) printing 245,966c, Kingmaker (Despot Axe) 12,111c, Voidforge (Infernal Sword) 11,266c, and Jiquani's Potential (Imperial Staff) up to 6,947c from last edition's 4,642c — all against a flat 1c Chaos Orb anchor. These are discovery prints, not market prices. Expect wild swings a while yet.
- Albion's index reclaimed base as the logistics trade held. The Albion Market Index sits at 1,000.3, +11% on the week — back to its June baseline — and the reason is unchanged: capital keeps flowing into carrying capacity ahead of Dragonfire. Master's Bag is up +21.9% (51,193 silver) and Expert's Bag +30.2%, while the mount bleed has nearly stopped — Swiftclaw is only −4.8% now versus −20% a week ago. And a saga refuses to die: Adept's Rune, which we finally declared "quiet at 8 silver flat" last edition, twitched back to 10 (+100%). We'll believe it's over when it's over.
Around the Games
WoW Retail — Patch 12.1 Aug 11, Season 2 Aug 18; the last Player Housing expansion since launch keeps decor professions humming; deck speculation unwinding, profession mats bid, weapon froth cracked. FFXIV — one week into Switch 2, reagent board in heavy two-way churn; Phantom Weapons final upgrade and North Horn mats still moving; 7.56/Beastmaster Sep 8. Guild Wars 2 — Aug 11 update brings WvW War Score Beta 3 and the Jimothy minipet; Trading Post quiet on 4-trade movers into the patch, though the index reads soft — watch Ecto and T6 stacks around the drop. Path of Exile — 3.29 mid-league; farms repriced not killed, chase uniques being invented. WoW Classic — the Classic calendar is the story: MoP Classic Season 2 ends Aug 18 (expect S2 PvP gear and crafted stock to deflate on the sell-off), a community "Fake Fresh" Naxxramas wave ran Aug 10 (pre-raid herb/Arcanite/enchant demand), and TBC Anniversary Phase 3 lands Aug 27 — Epic Gems entering via Hyjal mining and Black Temple is a major supply event, with Arena Season 3 consumables spiking Sep 1. Not yet in our live tracking. Albion — logistics rotation entrenched, index back to base, mounts stabilizing; Dragonfire Aug 31. RAID: Shadow Legends — the monthly Fusion remains the collection beat; no market news.
The Wider Market
- Crimson Desert rebuilt its economy from the ground up. Pearl Abyss's Update 1.16 added 133 new trading posts, genuine supply-and-demand pricing (dump too much of one good at one settlement and its price drops there), 24 new high-value trade goods, remote-post profit bonuses and Royal Trading Posts paying 4×. It's one of the most structurally significant economy redesigns any MMO has shipped this year — arbitrage and route optimization are now first-class mechanics. Not on AuricDB, but a genuine sandbox-economy event worth watching.
- RS3 opened its first free-to-play League — and pulled attention off the Grand Exchange. Leagues II: Equilibrium launched August 10 (running to September 21), the first RS3 league open to F2P players and expected to draw a real population surge. League characters are no-trade Ironman, so the money isn't in the league — the effect to watch is softness and thinner volume on the main RS3 GE through the six-week run.
- OSRS added a new fish supply vector; the big cap change still looms. The August 5 Wyrmscraig & Sailing patch introduced boat fishing (5×5 spots at land-equivalent rates), a fresh supply channel that could pressure high-demand fish, and reset Avernic Defender death value to a flat 600k. The structural one — the "Beyond Max Cash" GE overhaul letting trades clear above the 2.147B cap — remains on the late-summer/autumn slate.
- EVE's July report reads summer slump. CCP's July MER put the Mineral Price Index down 5.5% on the month with money supply contracting, even as production ticked up — the classic vacation-months softness, against a brutal year-over-year backdrop (minerals −52%, ships −21%). CCP expects normalization as summer ends.
- Lost Ark's server merge is now on the clock. The NA/EU consolidation begins August 26 — all auction house listings cancelled and mailed back, currency-exchange orders refunded, several events cutting off August 19 to open the window. Combined player bases hitting a shared auction pool for the first time is a real liquidity shock; clear listings before the 26th. (Black Desert's Aug 6 patch, meanwhile, split its new Edania accessories into non-tradeable and Central-Market versions and closed an NPC-sale gold loophole on HYPERBOOST mats.)
Industry Notes
The week's cleanest business-to-economy thread runs through Pearl Abyss: the same studio behind Black Desert shipped Crimson Desert's supply-and-demand trading overhaul while BDO tightened its own gold sinks — a single publisher visibly leaning into player-economy depth across two titles at once.
